The Untouchables

12-2012 UntouchablesIn the first half of the movie The Untouchables, about the conflict in the 1920s Chicago between the gangster Al Capone and Federal Agent Elliott Ness, Ness is losing the battle.

Sean Connery’s character Jim Malone, a streetwise Irish policeman steps in at a crucial point and asks Ness, “What are you prepared to do?” In Malone’s eyes, Ness has been holding back.

While skirting the law, the second half of the movie has Ness and his “Untouchables,” score a number of tactical victories that finally lead to the arrest and conviction of Capone.

The line “What are you prepared to do?” has always left me asking the question to myself in my Christian walk.

We all hold back our testimony to the outside world in one way or another. It’s clear to me, and was clear to the disciples, that Christ has always confronted us with the question,“What are you prepared to do?”
